Default Reviewer Notifications?

Bob,

Did you ever implement the email notification to reviewers when a new essay is submitted? If so, they should all know about it even if they don't visit often.

Anyway, this one was submitted plenty long ago. You did the right thing in approving it now.

Glen

Yes, the reviewers get notified by e-mail. I think everyone has pretty much given up on this place, it's a concept that was before it's time I guess....

We need more traffic to keep interest levels high in the participants, but we just can't seem to get there.

On the other hand, the site regularly gets lot of hits, it has a steady flow of traffic. Hell, Google "Railroad Essays" and today we show up as the third site listed. That's pretty dang impressive.

So, there's potential here, if I could ever figure out how to get enough traffic. OK, I can easily figure out how to get the traffic, full page ads in Trains Magazine should do the trick no problem... What I can't figure out how to do is get the traffic on a very limited budget.

Bob - the Comcast issue has left me without email notification from this site. Don't fuss - I'll just make sure I check in more often - I haven't given up.

Thanks Jon,

I'm going to change to a "kinder and gentler" review process, assuming anyone else bothers to submitgar an essay.

If an essay comes in, I'm going to have a look, and assuming it's not pure junk, approve it. Then, if anyone else is interested, they can add their comments and suggestions.

Looking back over the essays we did with the moderators, I think only about 2 or 3 were rejected. Even those weren't terrible, we just had a few things we'd like to see done differently.

I still think there needs to be some quality control, but maybe not as strict as it was. So I'll give this new version a try, and see how it works, again, if we see any more essays to get the ball rolling.
